A Family Boat Trip in Mauritius with Kids: What Parents Ask Us

A private boat is one of the easiest ways to spend a day on the water with children. You set the pace, there are no strangers to worry about, and the shallow, reef-protected lagoon of the south-east is about as gentle as the sea gets. These are the questions parents ask us most.

Is it safe?

Yes. Life jackets in children's sizes are on board, the skipper briefs everyone before departure, and the route stays mostly inside the reef where the water is calm. Captain Pascal does not run trips in unsafe weather, and will reschedule.

What ages can come?

All ages. Infants from 0 to 3 travel free. Children aged 4 and over are counted as paying guests. Tell us the ages when you enquire so we bring the right life jackets.

Will they be bored?

Rarely. Kids love the speed of the boat, sitting at the front, spotting fish while snorkeling, the roar of the GRSE waterfall and building sandcastles on Île aux Cerfs. On a full day there is time for all of it, with a long lunch break on the beach.

Snorkeling for beginners

Snorkeling gear is included. Many stops are shallow enough for children to stand. Parents often start them off holding a floating life jacket and looking down through the mask.

Food and drinks

Soft drinks and water are on board all day. The full-day BBQ lunch (chicken, fish, rice, salad, garlic bread, banana flambé) usually suits young eaters. Mention allergies or vegetarians in your enquiry.

Half day or full day with kids?

With toddlers, a morning half day is often enough. From around five years old, most families enjoy the full day.

Frequently asked questions

Are boat trips in Mauritius suitable for babies?

Yes, inside the lagoon on a calm day. Babies and children up to 3 years old travel free with Southeast Cruises. Bring a hat, sun cream and a spare change of clothes.

Do you have life jackets for children?

Yes, in children's sizes. Let us know your children's ages when you book.

Is there shade on the boat?

Our speedboats have a canopy for shade while cruising. Island stops have natural shade under the trees.

Plan your day with Captain Pascal

Southeast Cruises runs private speedboat days from Pointe des Régates in Mahébourg, on the south-east coast of Mauritius. Tell us your date, party size and what you want to see, and Captain Pascal Bosquet will shape the route around the tide and the wind.
