What to Bring on a Boat Trip in Mauritius: The Captain's Packing List

A day on the lagoon is easy to prepare for. Snorkeling gear, life jackets, drinks and (on a full day) lunch are all provided on our boats. Here is what you should still bring.

The essentials

  • Swimwear, ideally worn under your clothes so you are ready at the first stop.
  • Reef-safe sun cream. The tropical sun is strong even on cloudy days, and the reflection off the water doubles it.
  • Hat and sunglasses, with a strap if possible: the boat is fast.
  • Towel and a light change of clothes.
  • A light long-sleeved top or rash vest for snorkeling and the ride home.

Good to have

  • Dry bag or zip bags for phones and wallets.
  • Water shoes if you want to walk on rocky shores.
  • Waterproof phone case or action camera for underwater photos.
  • A little cash for drinks or souvenirs on Île aux Cerfs.
  • Motion sickness tablets if you are sensitive, taken before departure. Inside the reef the water is usually calm.

What to leave behind

Large suitcases, drones without permission, and anything you would hate to get wet. Please also avoid single-use plastic: our lagoon protection note explains why.

On the day

Meet us at Pointe des Régates in Mahébourg 15 minutes before departure. If the weather looks uncertain, Captain Pascal will contact you in advance by WhatsApp or phone.
