Half-Day or Full-Day Boat Trip in Mauritius? How to Choose

It is the most common question we get on WhatsApp: "Should we do the half day or the full day?" Both are private trips from Pointe des Régates in Mahébourg with a skipper and guide. Here is the honest comparison.

The half day (3 hours)

  • Times: 09:30 to 12:30, or 13:00 to 16:00.
  • Route: Île aux Phares (the lighthouse island), past Île aux Aigrettes and Île aux Vacoas, with two snorkeling spots.
  • Included: soft drinks, water, beer and rum, light snacks, snorkeling gear, safety equipment.
  • No lunch.

Choose it if: you have small children, a busy itinerary, a flight the same day, or you simply want a taste of the lagoon.

The full day (6 hours)

  • Times: 09:30 to 15:30.
  • Route: the GRSE waterfall, Île aux Cerfs, Île aux Phares, snorkeling.
  • Included: full BBQ lunch (chicken, fish, garlic bread, salad, rice, banana flambé), soft drinks, local rum and beer all day, snorkeling gear, safety equipment.
  • Optional: grilled langouste, 250 g or 500 g.

Choose it if: this is your one boat day in Mauritius, you want the waterfall and Île aux Cerfs, or you are celebrating something.

Our honest advice

If you can only do one, do the full day. The waterfall and the long beach lunch are what guests talk about afterwards, and per hour on the water it is the better value. Current prices are on our experiences page.
