How to Book a Boat Trip in Mauritius Safely (and Avoid Bad Surprises)

Mauritius has dozens of boat operators, from beach touts to established local crews. A little care when booking makes the difference between a perfect lagoon day and a disappointing one. Here is the checklist we would give a friend.

1. Know exactly what is included

Ask for the full list: drinks (soft and alcoholic), lunch and menu, snorkeling gear, life jackets, the stops on the route and the times. With Southeast Cruises everything is written in your quote before you pay.

2. Private or shared?

"Private" should mean your group alone on the boat with your own skipper. Shared trips are cheaper but follow a fixed plan. We offer both: private trips from 2 guests, and group sharing places on selected days.

3. Ask about weather

A serious operator cancels or reschedules when the weather is unsafe, without charging you. Ours always does, and Captain Pascal contacts you in advance.

4. Talk to a real person

Before booking, you should be able to reach the captain or the team directly. Our guests talk to Captain Pascal on WhatsApp (+230 5493 8396), by phone or by email, and can ask anything before paying.

5. Pay safely

Our process is simple: you send an enquiry, we confirm availability and send a written quote, then you pay by Juice (MCB) or bank transfer. Once payment is received, you get a reservation confirmation by email. We never ask for card details online.

6. Check the meeting point

Southeast Cruises meets guests at Pointe des Régates, Mahébourg, 15 minutes before departure. Bring the items on our packing list.
